Hold off on those weekend plans: Spotlight Delaware has your whole family covered, no matter where you call home in Delaware.
New experiences are awaiting across the state this Saturday, Sept. 27 at the first-ever Spotlight Delaware Family Fun Day, a lineup of kid-pleasing, family-focused activities at 21 of the state’s top visitor attractions.
Best of all, admission fees at each attraction have been waived for the day with the support of Spotlight Delaware’s generous partners, including the Delaware Electric Cooperative, Out & About magazine, and the state’s tourism offices.
Today’s the Day for Free Fun in Delaware
- To get started on today’s fun, visit the Spotlight Delaware Family Fun Day page, where you can sign up and view the lineup of attractions.
All you need to do is register online, pick a few nearby attractions, and make some Delaware discoveries as you’re having fall fun.
“We created Family Fun Day as a way to celebrate Delaware’s families, while also giving those families a chance to get to know their home state a little better,” said David Stradley, Spotlight Delaware’s director of community engagement. “Spotlight Delaware’s core mission is serving our communities, so it made sense to find new ways to bring those communities together.”
Throughout the year, Spotlight Delaware hosts issue-oriented forums and community listening sessions that help align news coverage with residents’ concerns. Saturday’s event marks the nonprofit news site’s first foray into leisure-focused events, an effort that will continue into 2026.
“It’s a wonderful way to explore Delaware destinations you always wanted to visit, but haven’t had the chance to see,” said Allison Taylor Levine, Spotlight’s publisher and CEO. “It’s definitely a day for checking off some of those Delaware Bucket List items.”

The epic collaboration spans the entire state, with at least five participating attractions in each county. Upstate families can head off to such gems as the Delaware Art Museum, the Copeland Maritime Center, and the New Castle Court House Museum. In Central Delaware, check out the Air Mobility Command Museum, or head for downtown Dover, where it’s easy to stroll between attractions like the Biggs Museum of American Art, and First State Heritage Park.
Sussex County’s deep heritage and natural beauty are in focus at the Nanticoke Indian Museum, DuPont Nature Center, and the sprawling Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge – known worldwide for its wildlife, but still somewhat mysterious to more than a few Delawareans.
“As a lifelong Delawarean, I’m embarrassed I hadn’t visited some of these places before,” said marketing and events manager Elsa Kegelman, Delaware’s latest fan of the DuPont Nature Center. “I was totally charmed by what our state has to offer, just a little ways off Route 13.”
To get started, participants simply register at the Family Fun Day page, then head to the attractions of their choice – entrance is free everywhere, and the event website lists special family-oriented activities that have been added at many locations.
While participants enjoy the day, they’ll also get a chance at winning a prize in the Spotlight Delaware Family Fun Day Photo Contest. To enter:

Spotlight Delaware Family Fun Day was made possible by support from the Delaware Electric Cooperative, a member-owned electric distribution company serving 84,000 in Kent and Sussex Counties; and Out & About magazine, which has kept readers informed about entertainment options in Greater Wilmington since 1988. Support also was provided by tourism offices statewide: Delaware Tourism Office, Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Visit Central Delaware, and Southern Delaware Tourism.
