As part of its efforts to be a community-responsive news organization, Spotlight Delaware heads out into the First State with Pop-Up Newsrooms.

At Pop-Ups, Spotlight reporters set up on site in a public location and work on their news coverage. They are also available to talk with the public about journalism, hear ideas for stories and share a little bit about Spotlight’s mission and values. It’s the community’s chance to answer the question: If you could be in charge of our reporters for one day, what would you have them report on?

In 2024, Spotlight held four pop-ups in the lobbies of libraries: Dover Public Library, Route 9 Library & Innovation Center, Milford Public Library and Lewes Public Library.

We engaged with over 100 community members who shared over 30 story ideas. The following stories came directly from Pop-Ups:

Relief from heavy truck traffic in sight for Route 9 communities
Route 9 communities are taking their parks back
Latino businesses growing quickly in Delaware
Sussex has a new county council – what it means for development
