Delaware’s statewide primary election is approaching on Sept. 10 as early voting began on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

What does the process of voting include?
Who can vote in the primary election?
Only Delaware voters registered with either the Democratic Party or Republican Party may vote in the primary election. Additionally, you must be:
- A United States citizen
- A resident of Delaware
- 18 years old on or before the date of the next General Election.
The deadline to register to vote in the primary election already passed on Aug. 17.
When is the primary election?
Delaware’s 2024 primary election will be on Tuesday, Sept.10, 2024. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
If you’re in line when the polls close — stay in line. You still have the right to vote.
Where do I vote?
To find your nearest polling place, visit ivote.de.gov and enter your address at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, go to bit.ly/de-polling-places to see all available polling places in your area.
What do I need to bring to vote?
When you go vote, you must show one of the following forms of ID:
- Valid state-issued photo ID
- Utility bill
- Paycheck
- Any government document with your name and address
If you do not have one of the forms of ID, you can sign an affidavit of affirmation that you are the person listed on the election district record.
When and where is early voting?
You can vote at any early voting location in your county of residence during the following dates:
- Wednesday, Aug. 28, through Saturday, Aug. 31, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 4, through Sunday, Sept. 8, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Unlike the Primary Election Day when local polls will open, there are only eight centralized locations in Sussex County, six in New Castle County and four in Kent County that allow early voting for any voter.

Can I request an absentee ballot?
You can vote by absentee ballot if you are unable to appear at your assigned polling place on Election Day for a reason permitted by state law. More information on if you qualify can be found here.
Here’s how you can request an absentee ballot:
- Visit ivote.de.gov
- Download and return the absentee ballot request form, found here.
- Call or email the Department of Elections to request an application.
- Pick an application up at the Department of Elections.
The Department of Elections can issue absentee ballots up until noon on Monday, Sept. 9. Absentee ballots must be received by the Department of Elections at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in order to count.
