Spotlight Delaware welcomes two new members to its Board of Directors: Darel La Prade and Monica Shockley-Porter.
Both La Prade and Shockley-Porter have been involved with Spotlight Delaware and other projects of the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) over the past few years. Both bring significant southern Delaware perspective to the board as Spotlight Delaware deepens its coverage in Kent and Sussex counties.
Darel La Prade
Darel La Prade is an experienced media executive with decades of service to the industry. Before his retirement, he served as the group publisher for the Delmarva Group of Independent Newsmedia Inc., overseeing publications including the Delaware State News and the Salisbury Independent. His career includes time spent as a reporter, editor, publisher, and most recently as the project manager for the Delaware Journalism Collaborative, a previous LJI project.
Dr. Monica Shockley-Porter
Shockley-Porter is a seasoned professional with over a decade of leadership experience in public relations, business development, and program management across healthcare, education, and social services sectors, currently serving as a Public Relations Specialist at Capital School District.. She is an active member of Network Delaware, The Links Incorporated, Fund for Women at Delaware Community Foundation and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (DE Chapter), and previously served as a board member of Spotlight Delaware.
“We’re delighted to welcome two friends and very familiar faces to our Board of Directors,” said Allison Taylor Levine, publisher and CEO of Spotlight Delaware. “Darel’s experience in local journalism and media management, Monica’s expertise in public relations and community engagement, and both of their ties to Kent and Sussex counties will help strengthen our presence in the heart of the First State as we expand our coverage of rural Delaware.”
