A seasoned sales executive will lead Spotlight Delaware’s drive to achieve long-term sustainability, ensuring Delawareans have access to robust local news and information for years to come.
Avie Silver has been named as Spotlight Delaware’s Director of Strategic Partnerships, and will advance the nonprofit local news organization’s sales and sponsorship program, which includes signature events like the Legislative Summit, digital ads in newsletters and on the website, and custom-written sponsored content.

“From the start, we’ve worked to ensure that Spotlight’s news coverage is always free, to all Delawareans, all the time,” said Allison Taylor Levine, publisher and CEO. “Avie will help make certain that remains true, especially in times when philanthropic support is uncertain.”
Silver started her sales career at The News Journal in Delaware, where she helped launch Spark, the newspaper’s weekly lifestyle magazine. She was also on the launch team of the Delaware Business Times.
“Avie’s a true pro, a dynamic, positive person, and a fabulous sales executive who knows how to build genuine relationships,” said Matt Sullivan, Spotlight’s chief operating officer. “Put simply, Spotlight’s biggest ambitions seem closer than ever with Avie on the team.”
Silver has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh, an MBA from Wilmington University, and is a graduate of Leadership Delaware.
“I had thought I was done with advertising sales, but the opportunity to work with Spotlight reignited my passion,” she said. “I was seeing how many Delawareans face gaps in news coverage, and deeply admire Spotlight’s commitment to providing accurate, independent journalism.”
Spotlight’s mission not only suits her philosophy, but it also helps her sales pitch.
“With Spotlight’s team producing such high-quality reporting and so deeply engaging our fast-growing audiences, it strengthens my ability to do this work well,” she said. “Journalism should be accessible to everyone, but it also requires sustainable support. Once organizations understand that, the value of partnership is more clear.”
Silver will manage accounts for advertisements and sponsored content articles that appear in daily newsletters and the website. But she’s also exploring less-traditional partnerships that will deliver results – for Spotlight and the clients who want to support it.
“This is a new kind of newsroom, and it calls for a more innovative approach,” she said. “Because Spotlight reaches every corner of the Delaware community, we have an opportunity to create partnerships that are meaningful for both readers and the organizations that support us – whether through events, custom content, or other collaborative efforts.”
“That’s the most rewarding part of this work,” Silver added. “When you see a real need in the community and realize we can help meet it, everyone benefits.”
