Matt Sullivan has been promoted to chief operating officer of Spotlight Delaware, as the First State’s collaborative, nonprofit, community-powered newsroom prepares for additional growth in 2025.

Sullivan joined Spotlight Delaware as director of operations in September. In his new role, he will lead implementation of the organization’s overall mission and strategic plan, including overseeing daily operations, marketing and growth.

“In 2025, we’re adding six critical new positions that will allow us to continue to fill the gaps in local news and information, while partnering with other local news outlets and continuing to develop a sustainable business model for nonprofit news,” said Spotlight Delaware Publisher & CEO Allison Taylor Levine. “Matt has the combination of private and public-sector experience needed to manage this growth while keeping us squarely focused on serving the community.”

Spotlight Delaware focuses on covering public policy and how it affects the daily lives of Delawareans throughout the state, with a particular emphasis on communities that have not always had access to local news and information.

“I’ve been floored by the outpouring of community support we’ve received at Spotlight – not just in donations and dollars, but by the genuine enthusiasm people have for the work our reporting team is producing,” Sullivan said. “And every morning, when that Spotlight newsletter lands in my inbox, I’m reminded of how needed this work is, and how vital it is that we figure out a sustainable path forward for local journalism.”
